The overall gutter guard installation experience was overwhelmingly positive among homeowners in our survey. A combined 95% of respondents who chose professional gutter guard installation said they were either “very satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied” with the overall process and workmanship.
In addition to installation quality, another important aspect of customer satisfaction is the peace of mind homeowners receive knowing the work is protected by a warranty. As reported by survey respondents, 87% of gutter guard installations came with warranty coverage.
Homeowners were also confident in their warranty coverage. Among the warranty-covered customers, a combined 99% reported being either “very confident” or “somewhat satisfied” with the protection.
Negative Installation Experiences
A small percentage of homeowners reported dissatisfaction with their gutter guards. Only 0.8% were “somewhat dissatisfied” and 0.2% said they felt “very dissatisfied” with the overall value. Regarding debris management, 1.2% were “somewhat dissatisfied” and 0.1% were “very dissatisfied” with how their guards blocked debris.
Why Do People Buy Gutter Guards?
The primary motivation for purchasing gutter guards was to prevent flooding and clogs. Before installation, 41% of homeowners cleaned their gutters at least once a year and 34% cleaned them twice annually. After installing guards, 41% said they still followed an annual cleaning schedule, while nearly 30% reported never needing to clean their gutters at all. Only 22% continued cleaning their gutters twice per year after installing guards.
Based on our survey results, reduced maintenance requirements led to time saved. This time-saving benefit was consistently valued by homeowners across regions and home types, highlighting the universal appeal of reduced gutter maintenance.

Gutter Guard Regional Insights
Naturally, regional climate conditions affect homeowner preferences for gutter guards. Different plant and animal populations require different debris filtration solutions. For example, a homeowner in North Carolina might feel most concerned about the accumulation of pine needles, while a homeowner in Vermont might need to think more about preventing ice dams in their gutters during the winter.
Here’s a brief rundown of regional insights from our survey:
Gutter guard effectiveness was the top feature for 63% of homeowners in New England and other Northeastern regions. Leaf debris was particularly problematic, with 84% of homeowners reporting leaves as their primary debris concern.
The ability to handle seeds or maple “helicopters” was particularly important for homeowners in this region, with 32% of Midwestern respondents citing these seed pods as a major concern compared to 18% nationwide. Insect debris was also a notable issue, reported by 37% of homeowners.
When choosing a gutter guard installer, homeowners in the South ranked cost (60%) and gutter guard effectiveness (60%) as their top priorities. This makes sense given the region’s debris challenges, including leaves (84%), dirt or dust (42%), and insect debris (41%). These challenges make an effective gutter guard essential for preventing clogs and maintenance headaches.
Leaves were the top debris concern for Western homeowners, followed by dirt and dust. Reflecting these challenges, cost and gutter guard effectiveness were highly sought-after features when choosing an installer, each prioritized by 63% of homeowners.

Survey Insights: Are Gutter Guards Worth It?
Gutter guards are a worthwhile investment, according to the overwhelming majority of homeowners in our survey. With 41% of homeowners reducing cleaning to just once per year and another 30% eliminating it entirely, the time-saving benefits alone can justify the investment.
When factoring in the potential for preventing costly water damage to foundations, basements, and roofing structures, gutter guards represent a preventative maintenance solution with both immediate quality-of-life benefits and long-term property protection value.
Our Survey Methodology
We conducted a comprehensive survey of 1,000 U.S. homeowners nationwide in November 2025 to explore the reasons why they purchased gutter guards, how much they paid, their level of satisfaction with their system, and other significant information. The survey was run through Pollfish.
We made sure to include voices from across the country, with participants representing every U.S. region and a diverse mix of homeowner profiles. The age of respondents ranged from 18–99 years old. Men accounted for 52% of the respondents, and women accounted for 48%. While 66% of respondents work full-time, our survey also captured perspectives from retirees, homemakers, part-time workers, and those between jobs. This representation helped ensure our results provide a well-rounded view of consumer preferences when buying gutter guards, as well as important insights into the residential gutter market.
